Our approach is simple but powerful:

Educate → Employ → Build → Support → Repeat.

With each graduate, we grow a network of skilled individuals who, in turn, help build businesses, clinics, schools, conservation projects, and entrepreneurial ventures in their own communities.

This is not charity — it’s a movement.

Satchel & Boot commits a share of its revenue to Luma, while founders, directors, and partners contribute even more — together building a cycle of sustainable impact.

On November 7, 2025, we will launch our first initiative — a proof of concept designed to be the spark of a nationwide movement to create a future we can all be proud of.

Satchel & Boot powers the change. Luma ignites it.

LUMA

About LUMA Foundation

Across South Africa, there is no shortage of talent, ambition, or creativity. What’s missing for many is access — access to quality education, relevant skills, and real opportunities to turn potential into a sustainable livelihood.

Luma — meaning “to ignite” — was created to change that.

We are building an ecosystem that connects education directly to employment and entrepreneurship. Our mobile-first learning platform, powered by Satchel & Boot’s Bloom technology, delivers modern skills training in key growth areas: conservation, agriculture, business, technology, AI, and entrepreneurship.

But we don’t stop at learning. Through incentivized education, we motivate learners to complete their training, track their performance, and match them with real-world opportunities — whether that’s starting a business, securing a job, or leading a community project

Why We Exist

  • 1 in 2 young South Africans are unemployed.

  • Talent and ambition exist everywhere — but access to resources and opportunities doesn’t.

  • Luma was created to close that gap.
